Description of Programs and Volunteer Opportunities

Wondering what we do all year and who does it? Here’s your Answers!

We hope you will take the time to participate with your children or even volunteer for some of our great programming.

Sky Zone– We plan to host this event be one of two main PTSA fundraisers. This event is scheduled for the first Monday in November, before Election Day. Students can pre-pay for a block of jump time and PTSA receives half of the ticket sales in proceeds. We will need two co-chairs to create a flier, and promote and manage returned order forms, and volunteers the night of the event to check in participating students and families.

Polar Blast – Snow Tubing Anyone? PTSA will sponsor our second fundraiser of the year in January at Brandywine’s Polar Blast Snow Tubing Hills. Co-Chairs will be needed to create fliers, promote the event, and manage returned order forms, and volunteers will be needed that night to check in participating students and families. We also hope to hold a raffle with the event. Volunteers will be needed to sell raffle tickets in the cafeteria prior to the event, and during the event night.

Spirit Nights at Local Businesses – Occasional events held at businesses like ChickFil A, Chipotle or Rosati’s to promote our school and raise additional funds to support our programming.

These fundraisers also benefit our PTSA sponsored programs and events.

School Sponsored Fundraisers – Please note, there are two additional fundraisers in the fall, a magazine sale and a cookie dough sale that are sponsored by the school. These fundraisers are important as they support the Middle School staff’s ability to purchase and upgrade technology for the school, as well as sponsor other events for our students. Please consider supporting these staff sponsored fundraisers. No PTSA volunteers are needed for these two fundraisers.

PTA Website – Our Middle Schoo PTSA website can be found through the district’s website by

clicking on schools/Lee Eaton/PTA, or

The website contains the most current information about PTSA events and activities as well as links to meeting minutes, newsletters, contact information for our event planners, and forms you may need. Our website manager updates the site with new information as needed.

Historian – Volunteers to take photographs at PTSA events and work with our school picture

company to design and layout or school yearbook. Also new this year, the historian will select photos of our events to add to the website and facebook page.

Facebook Page - – Have you seen our Middle School Facebook Page Yet? Look us up under

Nordonia Middle School PTSA. We would love for you to “Like” our page so you will receive regular updates and information from us, along with photos of school events and every day activities. It’s a fun way to keep up with what is happening at school!

Eighth Grade Trips – Nordonia Middle School Sponors two trips for students to Washington DC and on the Nautica Queen. Volunteers are needed to help organize paperwork, and handouts (such as t-shirts), for these events. Your help is always appreciated!

Book Fair – This is a significant event for our school, and is not a fundraiser, but an opportunity for PTSA to give students the gift of reading. Book fair is one week in October. Students will receive a $5 gift card, compliments of PTSA when they spend $10 at the fair during their classroom shopping time.

There are also many morning and possibly evening opportunities for families to shop together with your students. Any cash profit made during the book fair is donated back to our librarian to purchase new materials for our students. Co-chairs for this program are responsible for planning around the book fair theme, communicating the class time, morning, and evening schedules to our families, coordinating many volunteers to support all of our shopping times, as well as set up and tear down.

Ice Cream Social Family Night – Held during book fair, this event allows you to attend a family night at school with your child, sponsored by PTSA, and shop at the book fair in the evening. Volunteers are needed to serve and clean up during the ice cream social. The chair of this event plans the ice cream social and secures the food and volunteers needed for the event.

Lake Erie Monsters Game – Held in February, families will have a chance to attend a Lake Erie

Monsters Game and watch our 8th Grade Band perform. We will need volunteers to sell 50/50 Raffle Tickets, with a portion of those proceeds benefiting our band and PTSA programs. The Coordinator for this event will be responsible for creating a flier and promoting the event, and managing ticket sales, and securing PTSA volunteers for the 50/50 raffle.

Sweetest Day Carnation Sale – Help our students share their friendship with this fun event in

October. We need a chair or co-chairs to coordinate the sale and distribution in the cafeteria the week prior to Sweetest Day, and volunteers during the week to sell and deliver the flowers.

Veterans Day Celebration – On Veterans Day, we honor those family members of our Middle School students who have served our country. Volunteers provide a meal for these deserving Veterans to thank them for their service. Our choir and band also perform for our Veterans. The coordinator of this event works with our Middle School staff to plan the day’s activities, and secures all volunteers needed to provide and serve the meal. This coordinator also helps with communicating the event to parents and family members.

PTSA Sponsored Assemblies – Your PTSA fundraising dollars help to pay for various assemblies and speakers throughout the year. Fundraising efforts this year will determine the extent of the programs we are able to bring to our students. Please refer back for more information in our newsletters throughout the fall and into the spring.

Welcome Back Lunch – Volunteers are asked to supply lunch items for a welcome back meal for Middle School Staff that is typically held during the second week of school. The coordinators of this event determine the menu and secure volunteers to buy or prepare food items as well as coordinating set up and clean up on event day.

Conference Dinners in November – Volunteers are asked to supply dinner items for two evening conference nights. The coordinators of this event determine the menu and secure volunteers to buy or prepare food items as well as coordinating set up and clean up on event day.

Winter Luncheon in December – A holiday themed lunch for school staff provided by PTSA. The coordinators of this event determine the menu and secure volunteers to buy or prepare food items as well as coordinating set up and clean up on event day.

Staff Appreciation Week in May – The co-chairs for this event determine the theme and activities for the week. Breakfast and Lunch are provided for the staff during the week. The co-chairs will determine the menu needs for the week, and coordinate volunteers to prepare food as well as set up and clean up on the days of the scheduled events. Co-chairs will also communicate the week’s events to parents and staff in advance.

Other PTA Sponsored Committees/Programs:

PTA also provides these services to our school community

Beautification Committee – This committee helps to enhance the grounds at the school by planting, weeding, watering, and mulching the flowerbeds around the school each year. The chair of this committee coordinates volunteers for spring clean up and any other maintenance needed.

Scholarship Committee – Middle School PTSA provides a $500 scholarship for graduating seniors who attended Nordonia Middle School. The committee reviews the applications in the spring and selects the recipients. The committee chair coordinates the reading of the applications, the selection process, and communicates with the HS guidance office during the process.

VAST – Volunteers Aiding Students and Teachers – Consider becoming a VAST Volunteer! You

will receive a VAST sign up form with all of PTSA’s events and activities. We would love for you to sign up for one or more events. Our VAST coordinator will communicate reminders and other event information to our families and volunteers as needed. Even in Middle School, your help is always needed and appreciated. We can’t do what we do without you!

Mini-Grants - On an annual basis and as funds permit, Middle School PTSA awards mini-grants to teachers and staff to be used for the benefit of our students. These mini-grants are

used for activities, projects, and programs that will enrich and enhance the education and welfare of our students.

Membership - Be sure to join the PTSA! Your $7.00 membership fee gives you a voting voice in our programs and activities and helps with the funding. In addition, all PTSA members have access to free online training, newsletters, bulletin boards, special product offerings or discounts, and more offered by Ohio and National PTA. Check out for benefits and resources to paid PTA members. Most important, however, joining PTA gives you a voice on important education issues on the state and national level.

Awards and Honors – Each year, PTSA honors some special people with these awards. Any teacher, student or family can nominate someone for an award, and at our January PTSA meeting, all nominations are reviewed and voted on by our PTSA membership.

related field or a friend of the PTSA who has given long and/or outstanding service to

who encompasses the qualities and abilities that allow and encourage children to learn
