PTA Programs


Listed below is a description of the various committees, programs, events and activities sponsored, in whole or in part, by Ledgeview PTA.  For more information, please contact Katrina Jackson at katrinamjackson6@gmail.com.

ASSEMBLIES - PTA hosts 3 to 4 assemblies during the school year as a fun alternative to education in the classroom.  (i.e. COSI on Wheels, Author Assembly, Spring Assembly)

AWARDS & HONORS

  • Helping Hands Award - is presented to a PTA member, who has given long and/or outstanding service to help with the educational process of students, participates in activities involving youth and is dedicated to the PTA purpose.

  • Ohio PTA Achievement Award - is presented to someone who has given outstanding service to our youth; someone in our community who has been active in some area of concern; and/or serves as an advocate for children in health, education, safety or legislation.

  • Outstanding Educator of the Year - is awarded to an exceptional teacher who encompasses the qualitites & abilities that allow and encourage students to learn and develop their unique strengths & talents.  


BEAUTIFICATION - This committee works the Garden Club help to maintain Ledgeview's two courtyards and other general beautification projects around the school.

BOARD OF EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVE - A PTA member who regularly attends district Board of Education meetings and reports to the PTA Board & General Membership of issues discussed.

BOOK FAIR - The Scholastic Book Fair is held annually, typically in the Fall or Spring.  Books Fairs often include a Morning Preview and Family Night with contests, games and shopping opportunities.  Proceeds from the sale are used to purchase Scholastic books for our students, teachers, staff and library and may also be used to provide Summer Reading books to our students. 

BULLETIN BOARD - PTA maintains a bulletin board in the school lobby to publicize Ledgeview events, information and school calendar.

CHILDREN'S CONCERT SOCIETY - Performs an informal live concert at our school to introduce and foster music appreciation, encourage young musicians and create a connection between cultures and races where music becomes vividly experienced as a universal language.

CONFERENCE NIGHT MEALS - A program where PTA provides meals for our faculty during Parent/Teacher Conference Nights.

FAMILY FUN EVENTS - Organized family events like Fall Outing, Movie Night, Ice Cream Social and Bowling Night to help foster the relationship between the home and school and allows students to socialize. 

FIELD DAY - Directed by the Physical Education teacher, Field Day is an annual event held at the end of the school year which promotes physical fitness and celebrates a successful school year. 

FOUNDERS DAY - Celebrated in February to honor those who founded PTA.  The PTA generally hosts a local author or illustrator during Right to Read Week and makes a donation to the school library.

FOURTH GRADE PARTY - A committee of 4th grade parents plan and organize a day filled with plenty of fun, food and entertainment for our 4th grade students who will be "graduating" from Ledgeview.

FUNDRAISERS - Committees of various fundraisers to fund all what the PTA does for the students and staff at Ledgeview. Examples of current fundraisers are: Race for Education, Football Mania, Calendar Raffle, etc. to name a few.

GARDEN CLUB - 3rd & 4th grade students who help to maintain and beautify the school courtyards and learn about horticulture and the environment.

HEALTH & SAFETY - Committee works with the administration to inform and promote safe and effective school procedures.  Also helps to coordinate Bus Safety Week, Red Ribbon Week, and annual Vision & Hearing Screenings.

HOLIDAY SHOP - Students are invited to do all their holiday shopping from a great selection of gifts ranging from $1 to $5.  This event is not a fundraiser and all items are sold at or below our cost.

HOSPITALITY - This committee welcomes new members and provides refreshments for Ledgeview PTA General Meetings and other special events as needed.

KISS BREAKFASTS - "Kindergarteners Invite Someone Special" breakfasts for Dads/Male guest in the Fall and Moms/Female guest in the Spring.

LEDGEVIEW LEADERSHIP LEAGUE (LLL) - Parent coordinators organize and coordinate events/community service projects for students in grades 3 & 4 who join the LLL.  The LLL's main purpose is to offer students an opportunity to develop leadership skills through community service projects which benefit local organizations. LLL will teach Ledgeview students to view the world around them from the perspective of what they have to offer of themselves to others.
 
LEGISLATIVE/ADVOCACY - This representative is responsible for keeping the Ledgeview PTA membership informed of the National and State PTA platform as well as local, county and state educational issues which are important to our membership and our students' well-being.

MEMBERSHIP - This committee's focus is to promote membership from parents, staff, grandparents, businesses and community members to join our PTA.  The nominal membership fee gives you a voting voice in our programs & activities and helps with the funding of our events and programs.

MINI-GRANTS - On an annual basis, as funds permit, Ledgeview PTA awards mini-grants to teachers & staff to be used for the benefit of the students of Ledgeview Elementary.  These mini-grants are used for activities, materials, projects and programs that will enrich and enhance the education and welfare of our students.

NEWSLETTER - Did you miss that PTA meeting and want to know what's going on?  PTA distributes a paper newsletter monthly and sends an e-newsletter typically twice per month.  Go to the Ledgeview PTA website to print a copy of the paper newsletter or to sign-up to receive the e-newsletter.

PUBLICITY - Responsible for notifying appropriate local media regarding announcements and events related to Ledgeview upon approval from administration.

RECYCLING - PTA coordinates and communicates the recycling efforts at Ledgeview.  Proceeds from newspaper recycling support our school library.  PTA also recycles printer ink cartridges, cell phones and other small electronics.  
 
REFLECTIONS - Sponsored by the National PTA, the Reflections Program offers students the opportunity to create works of art fun and recognition.  Students are encouraged to give thought to the annual theme and express themselves through photography, visual arts, literature, film production, dance or musical composition.  Ledgeview PTA recognizes each student's entries.  Their works move on to compete at the district, state or national level.

SCHOLARSHIP -  Ledgeview PTA awards two $500 scholarships to graduating Nordonia seniors who attended Ledgeview Elementary.  The Scholarship Committee is responsible for reviewing scholarship applications and selecting winners.

SCHOOL KITS - School Kits is a program in which parents can order their student's customized grade-level school supplies for the next school year.  This program is provided as a service to our parents and students of Ledgeview.  PTA does not raise any monies from the sale of the kits.

SCIENCE PROGRAM(S) - PTA coordinates at least one science based program during the year to help our students meet the Ohio Science Standards.  In the past, PTA has sponsored programs from the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

SCHOOL PICTURES - This committee helps our children put on their best smile on school picture day!

SPIRITWEAR - PTA occasionally sells spiritwear gear that generally consist of Ledgeview and Nordonia t-shirts, hoodies and jackets.

SUNSHINE - The Sunshine Committee brings a little sunshine into the lives of Ledgeview students and staff.

TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK - Typically celebrated during the first full week of May, PTA hosts a week of meals, treats, gifts and fun to honor Ledgeview's teachers and staff.

VOLUNTEERS ASSISTING STUDENTS & TEACHERS (VAST) - The VAST program is PTA's largest and serves an important role in helping Ledgeview students receive a positive education.  At the start of the school year, classroom needs are identified and the Room Parent/VAST Coordinator in each classroom assists the teacher in matching volunteers to the classroom needs.  "VAST"ing in the classroom typically involves helping the teacher as needed including assisting student math and reading interventions and making copies.  NOTE:  Please remember, all VAST volunteers must sign in/out at the office when visiting the school.

YEARBOOK - This committee consists of at least one parent, at each grade level, to help coordinate the collection of photos from school events.
